    Samsung SSD

Hi, wonder if anyone can help.
I have just received a replacement Samsung SSD 840 pro. I sent the first back for being defective on arrival but this seems to have the same problem. Want to check I am doing nothing wrong before I send this back.

I have connected it to three windows 7 computers using a USB to ATA/ATAPI bridge (coltec) which shows in the devices and printers window. It also identifies the Samsung drive as being present.

However in 'my computer' the drive is not visible. I have used the ATPI bridge to connect about 6 HDDs before with no problem. So is it the Samsung Drive.

    thanks in advance.

It's a long time since I installed a drive but from memory I believe they have to be "mounted". Right click "Computer" Manage Storage Disk Management. Select your drive and under Actions click mount.

You could skip the coltec bridge whatever that is (a USB HDD Docking station ?) .Shut PC down, plug in your SATA Cable to Mobo Port, the other end in to your SSD - plug in your spare SATA power cable in to your SSD - now boot up .It should be recognised by your PC - 3x SSD I have were already formatted but check with a Disk Manager piece of Software program (free is Easeus Partition manager and another is Partition ******)

Do not not update Firmware unless you understand what you are doing .

If you try above you could look in to your Bios and see if the Mobo has recognised it and check that it is not the first disk to start up

You don't say whether this is a PC or Lappy but I assume you have spare ports on your mobo
