Hi- I have just bought a second hand motherboard. It is a Gigabyte and it came with core duo, power supply and 1gb memory already installed. I think that I have iwired it correctly as I have added a new ati graphic card which gives me an image on the monitor (i presume that it was installed correctly). The power supply is 450 watts. The pc powers up and does the usual and as soon as it gets to the hard drive and start vista, it powers off and restart and does that continually. I tried to repair it with windows vista and I selection start with cd drive and when I put the windows cd in it it says boot from cd/dvd :_ and when i press any key, nothing happens. It simply refuse to boot from cd drive and I have checked it in the set up and it says first boot cd rom second boot hard drive. I need help badly it is driving me bonkers!!! Hope to hear from someone thanks

most likely a copied cd/dvd has no boot on it? Test and see if it boots on other computer. In computer setup does it show the name of your dvd drive? change the connection so its is drive 0
Is it Sata drive or flat cable 40 leads? If flat cable check jumper Master/Slave
see if you can download the manual for that gigabyte motherboard, it should have some info on connections, ...

Thanks Giga. I have managed to sort it out and took some of your advice and it was the cd/dvd writer that was at fault althogh it works properly as I found out later on. I took the power from the cd/dvd writer and I let it connected to the dvd drive and it booted ok. Later on I moved the jumper in the cd/dvd rewriter and now both are showing on my computer. I don't understand why it did not boot on the cd/dvd rewriter.
